About Us
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. V-Day benefit events take place, produced by volunteer activists, in over 140 countries around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls both locally and globally. This year our benefit will be one of thousands of events around the world, channeling their creative energy into making a difference as part of the V-Day Campaign. It is our intention to make V-Day Truro 2019 a huge success. This will be possible, in large part, through the assistance and generosity of sponsors.
What are The Vagina Monologues?
The New York Times called The Vagina Monologues, “probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade." The play - first performed Off-Broadway and in locations around the world by Ms. Ensler - dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement in women’s experiences. V–Day grew out of the play which exploded onto the scene in 1998, breaking taboos about women’s sexuality and shattering silence around violence done to women and girls.
MISSION STATEMENT
V-Day is an organized response against violence toward women.
V-Day is a vision: We see a world where women live safely and freely.
V-Day is a demand: Rape, incest, battery, genital mutilation and sexual slavery must end now.
V-Day is a spirit: We believe women should spend their lives creating and thriving rather than surviving or recovering from terrible atrocities.
V-Day is a catalyst: By raising money and consciousness, it will unify and strengthen existing anti-violence efforts. Triggering far-reaching awareness, it will lay the groundwork for new educational, protective, and legislative endeavors throughout the world.
V-Day is a process: We will work as long as it takes. We will not stop until the violence stops.
V-Day is a day. We proclaim Valentine's Day as V-Day, to celebrate women and end the violence.
V-Day is a fierce, wild, unstoppable movement and community. Join us!

FAQ
Is this show only for women?
Everyone is welcome: this show is fantastic for a date night, a great conversation starter with co-workers, even a family evening (for older kids) or even a great place to send your teenagers with their friends. Our cast would say this show would be equivalent to a PG14 movie due to language and sexual discussions
Will it be embarrassing?
No, that is not the intention of the show. It may be a little awkward, but the humor and honesty help creating a sense of comfort, and more importantly gives a voice to people who have felt that their stories cannot be heard. This show is ground breaking in shedding light and using an artistic approach to breaking down the stigma of taboo topics many women have experienced or can relate to. Also, it touches on many elements of human and women's rights
I've already seen it, isn't it all the same, outdated, and not applicable?
Each cast and directors brings their own take to it as well as the script is updated with facts each year. This year we've added creative performances to compliment the monologues. In addition this year we have men partaking in a very special monologue.
Is it going to be boring?
This show uses comedy and thought provoking entertainment to bring life to the stories of these women. Each monologue is performed by a different women, some by a group of women. In addition our creative performances really sets this show apart.
Our Goals
In support of the Colchester Sexual Assault Centre
We are thrilled to be working together to make V-Day Truro 2020 a reality! We have been granted the rights for a V-Day benefit production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues” (TVM). Our team is committed to raising at least $5000, and we hope to reach that goal with your help! We estimate our expenses to be approximately $1,500, which includes renting our performance space, insurance, ticket printing, and advertising. This year, 100% of the proceeds will be going to our local charity, The Colchester Sexual Assault Centre. We give to this charity because they help all members of the community; women, men, children, & LGQTB+.
